CleanAim® WTL (waste-to-liquid) is a sustainable, low-emission solution that can produce liquid paraffinic fuels such as diesel, gasoline, SAF, and wax from solid wastes and biomass.

CleanAim® WTL is a sustainable technology that uses solid waste as feedstock to produce sustainable liquid fuels. It is similar to our CleanAim® GTL solution but uses a different feedstock and part of the process is integrated by different systems.

Waste CO2 discarded by other processes can be used as a secondary feedstock.

The solid waste feedstock must meet the criteria of being renewable or sustainable and a material that would otherwise be disposed of in a landfill.

Potential feedstocks are:

  • Municipal waste
  • Agricultural residues
  • Forestry residues
  • Biomass residues

CleanAim® WTL is fed with carbon-rich solid residues, which are transformed into synthesis gas and subsequently into liquid hydrocarbons. The CleanAim® WTL process chain consists of a series of catalytic reactors in which the chemical transformations necessary to obtain the desired products occur.

CleanAim® WTL consists of the following main systems:

  • Gasification system
  • Fischer-Tropsch catalytic synthesis system
  • Refining, hydrotreating, and separation systems
  • Control and safety systems, and auxiliary services

The SAF produced by CleanAim® WTL can be blended up to a maximum of 50% with conventional jet fuel to produce Jet-A or Jet-A1 fuel, which can be used in commercial aircraft.
